About Us
True to our roots, we have been serving the Fort Wayne area since 1953...
Russell McIntosh founded McIntosh Energy in 1953 after serving in the Korean War. He came back to Fort Wayne and, with $500 of borrowed money, bought a truck and a tank. He then started delivering home heating oil to the rapidly-growing neighborhoods nearby. His slogan, “Be Sure With Pure,” gave customers comfort in knowing they were dealing with a seller of quality products.
In the early 60’s, Russell acquired a small remote location in northern Allen County, which became the company’s first retail location for fuel and groceries. The original building was torn down and rebuilt in 1998 with all the features of a modern convenience store. The location still stands today as MacFood Mart Royville. McIntosh Energy expanded and now runs and operates four MacFood Mart convenience store locations.
In 1991, the company began servicing commercial fleet accounts with the first unattended card-lock system in the area. The success of this program allowed fleets to buy fuel at multiple Fort Wayne locations. McIntosh Energy became a franchisee of Pacific Pride in 1994 enabling fleets to buy fuel across the U.S. without losing the convenience and the control they desired. The company now operates four unattended commercial fueling sites.
Russell McIntosh passed away in November 2018 at the age of 89. McIntosh Energy is now run by Russell’s son, Ray McIntosh.
True to our roots, we still deliver product to locations that have on-site fuel tanks for their on- or off-road vehicles. McIntosh Energy also supplies fuel and marketing to independent dealer-operators with our Sunoco brand.
The only thing we no longer have is the truck that Russell McIntosh first used in 1953.
