Now don’t get the wrong idea. Most fleet drivers are honest hard workers doing a tough job. The government surely spends well over 2.4 million dollars on gasoline, making most government fleet vehicle drivers honest hard working citizens. The Pitfalls
- Now let’s talk about fuel cards. Not all fleet cards are created equal. Some companies offer a “fuel card” that is really nothing more than a credit card branded for fuel. You can track fuel usage this way, as in gallons of gasoline purchased where and when, but you have no control beyond that!
- According to a 2005 Commercial Fleet Market study more than 1/3 of fleets are not getting a full array of security features from their card provider. Furthermore, many of the available security features companies have access to, are not being used.
- There can be a general lack of personalization. Just because an operator has a card, does not mean they really understand how to use all the features. There is nothing like good old communication.
